I got to go on a little "field trip" to Sweet Mabel's Farm this past weekend and spent some time with a handful of farmers from our Sacramento Valley Flower Collective We talked about what they have "cropping up" this spring which reminded me of the #icelandicpoppies I loved so much from Redhead Flowerbed last season! I can't get over how beautiful they were. I am very much looking forward to spring and all the exciting blooms our farmers friends will have available in the ...very near future! Valentine's Day thoughts start creepin in every year like clock work the day after Christmas. And every year I cringe, drag my feet, and start plotting out how WTF is going to get through one of the busiest holidays of the year. Every January I have 2 options... 1 being to avoid this Hallmark Holiday like at all costs. 2 being that I give in and cater to the undying need for people to celebrate this holiday by doing so in true WTF fashion. (Which is basically the #AntiValentinesDay... where I don't offer dozens of roses, red roses, and I don't take last minute orders.) Tell ya the truth...I plan for both options because I am a florist after all... we have been known to pull miracles straight out of thin air! The catch here: is IF. IF I decide to tackle me some VDay insanity... YOU will be the first to know! Make sure you're on my Wait List (link in bio)! Physically: My body is not even close to being #WTFReady. Which I find incredibly frustrating. However, I know without a doubt that if I set out to make miracles happen and my body shuts down and refuses to cooperate with my plans to being my fully capable RAD-as-Hell-Floristy-self... I would be crushed having let YOU all down. OK I'd be be pretty pissed. Like #NextLevel ...There is no room for that in 2021! I'm not lookin to be pissed off, hurt, crushed, shut down, shut up, or any other feeling that doesn't fall under the #RadAsHell or #NoBullshit categories for 2021! I didn't get to kick all the ass I had planned last year...so this year better WTFO!

BAH HUMBUG! Just kidding This is my absolute favorite time of year! ... Not gonna lie tho, 2020 tried really hard to suck the holiday spirit right out if me. There were a few days there where it almost completely sunk me. BUT The private @clarksburglights show, Adopting a family from our favorite #Delta community #GivingTree , finding the joy in wrapping paper, jingle bells, twine & twigs, The perfectly scented holiday candles from the sweetest little girls @agzluv who made & sold them to earn $$ to buy gifts for kids in need, (I definitely have a candle addiction but....Seriously the SWEETEST girls & candles ever!) AND ALL the Christmas Cards, Christmas Carols, Holiday Cheer, & our own Family Traditions n' Festivities, Kept me afloat & restored my holiday spirit. I had major surgery earlier this month and what showed up after was MAJOR love & support delivered by various neighbors and friends. ...as well as HELLA Christmas cookies, tamales, & doordashes. (I may also have a cookie addiction & I ain't even mad about it.) These are just a few of my favorite things! (Rest & recovery however, are NOT among my favorite things.) Flower Confession Friday: I hate making corsages and boutonnieres. They are seriously my least favorite things to make.. Maybe it's because I may or may not be a bit of a perfectionist and even the tiniest details that likely no one else will see...matter to me. If there is one thing I stress about the most it's the wearables. They take a lot of time (for me anyway) and they never seem to look as good all fastened up as they did between my tiny little filth & sap covered fing...ers. It drives me nuts! However, these little buggers might be my most favorite boutonnieres I've ever made! Maybe it's because I used this cute rattan basket to hold them or maybe I'm super juiced about the color palette used for last weekends wedding or perhaps it's a combination of everything. Wrapped up the season and kicked off my hiatus with the last #WTFWedding of 2020 this past Saturday. My couple held on tight to the ever changing current and remained committed to celebating their love for one another. Come hell or high water... they we're getting married! Pandemic be damned!! And get married they did! They may have had to switch locations and downsize drastically but at the end of the day their #microwedding went off without a hitch. ... @kaylafacedd & @donofkings were not only the absolute cutest couple but the most laid back and easy going duo EVER. They gave me their complete trust and freedom to flower their wedding day. WTF is on Hiatus Effective Immediately (thru January 2021) I promised I would always be 100% transparent & honest with you all... It's been an incredibly rough week around here. Some of you may have seen my super vague but straight to the point Instagram post I shared recently. It was all I could get out at the time, but I'm ready to share more. Brace yourselves friends... Last Saturday my husband Jeremy suffereda traumatic brain injury as result ofa skateboarding accident.... Which has all but turned our life completely upside-down. This injury consists of a skull fracture, a brain hemorrhage and a severe concussion.We are very very very fortunate & thankful that this wasn't far worse than it was.This situation was not only physically and mentally traumatic for my husband; but has been traumatic for myself, our kids, and our extended family as well. He is currently recovering at home with us taking care of him around the clock but it's going to take some time & patience as we are still in the early stages of devising a plan that supports his recovery, however long that may be. This leaves me no choice but to put down my floral knife and step away from my flowers for the time being. At least through the end of 2020. As heartbroken as I am to do this... It's nowhere near the level of heartbreak I felt the moment I got the call that was my worst nightmare. So I know that without a doubt that this is 100% necessary for me to do. Please know that I am not abandoning my business and I am most certainly not abandoning any of you. I'm simply taking care of my family's immediate wellbeing instead. With the circumstances as they are, my attention can not be divided successfully. I know my strengths and I know my weaknesses and I know it won't be fair to anyone to try to continue managing things as they are. Stay Safe. Stay Rad. My husband was in a skateboarding accident this weekend and I need time and space to help him to get through this recovery. Sometimes fresh foliage and greenery makes me happier than the chocolate & cookies my husband surprises me with (since flowers aren't even an option for him anymore). I bought more foliage than anything else at the @svfcmarket today! This locally grown #KnifeBladeAcacia from @helpinghandsgardening caught my attention straight away. It's so friggin' rad I had to HAVE it!! Also those paintings in the background are a part of a trio by local artist @brooklyngraceart. My husband @j1gg1ty had to snatch them up from @husickstaphouse last December so I didn't go ahead and buy my own Christmas present! This was a remake that I delivered last week. Some of the product that went to a few clients the during the hottest week of the summer crashed really hard and just didn't hold up. I'll admit that I don't always follow up with every single person who receives flowers from me every week. But that's because I have built & established a rapport with every single one of my clients that allows us to have an open line of communication about my product & services, giving them the opp...ortunity to be as #StraightUp #NoBullshit with me as I am with them! So after I had some really great clients mention to me that some things in there arrangements faded far far too quickly, I made it a point to check in with every one of my clients that I knew got flowers from me that week. While most clients reported back that their flowers lasted the usual 5-7 days; I did what I wish everyone in the flower industry would do which is replace it!! While I can't always be 100% certain what went wrong I will most certainly always make it right! Every. Time. The quality and freshness of everything made & delivered by me is my TOP priority! The color of these bloom from @sweetmabelsfarm this week remind me of something.... I wish I could say it's because I am longing for brisk mornings, jeans & cozy sweaters, & the smell of fall in the air. But what it really reminds me of is the glow of the fires burning all around us. They bring out the warm golden tones of the #amaranth, orangy pink #lisianthus, and the soft yellow & deep peach #sunnies. They all hold so much beauty but also so much saddness.... I feel like California's fire season just gets worse every year and while the color of the flames reflecting in the sky and the hot pink sun can be breathtaking...it's also incredibly heartbreaking. It's an unmistakable sign of pain and devastation. When the flames are all out and the smoke clears, the ashes and scars will remain; and these colors will forever remind me of the unimaginable loss so many endure during a season I wish wasn't a "season" at all.
