Whirlawind Ranch

We mourn the untimely passing of Lucy. The neighbors dogs viciously attacked her yesterday. She was born here almost 4 years ago. Lucy was born blind in one eye and missing half a wing. She managed to remain a wild animal feeding herself in our green pastures and playing in the year round creek. Lucy was wise...... she marched herself to the barn at night to seek safety and we gave it to her. She adopted us as her family while remaining free roaming and wild. As some of you know, wild, was wild if you were on her bad side :) I am sure she is sorry about that!!!!! She could have marched, or swam away, but she stayed. I will miss watching her swim in the creek and roam the property. The ranch will not be the same without her.

The last few weeks have been intense. The PG&E days without power, and then PCWA diverting our irrigation water without notice. This most definitely left us in a precarious situation. We actually ran out of water for the horses. I was forced to purchase a generator to provide water to livestock. Finding the parts to get it operational was a challenge. Being left with no choice but to come up with the money to make the purchase, was maddening. We were lucky to restore wat...er within hours of it running out. Once the dust settles from this unacceptable mess....... I encourage everyone to be as loud as possible about the need for immediate change at the government level, the PUC and utility companies that we all depend on. This crisis took years of poor management and lack of oversight to happen. I have also been reminded that we need to look out for each other, because it doesn't seem the system is. I wish the best to everyone effected by the power/water outages. My heart goes out to the fire victims and their horrendous loss.
