Memorial Day originally known as Decoration Day commemorates all men and women who have died during military service. Traditionally seen as the start of the summer season it is also a signal to the fashion conscious that it is an acceptable time to wear white until Labor Day. Many people have BBQs or picnics. I post my flag and take a moment to honor those who have come before me and died during service. What do you do to commemorate Memorial Day? The first day of Spring! With the promise of longer days, the warmth of the sun on the cold barren ground revitalizes the little seed bringing forth new growth and an abundace of spring flowers. It is a time for rebirth and renewal, where light is equal to dark for only the second time out of the year and a time where many start the ritual of spring cleaning. Tidying up the house from top to bottom, sweeping away the dust and gloom, we open our windows and doors allowing the bright sunlight and fresh air back into our lives after the long dark winter. No matter how you celebrate spring, I encourage you to take the time to stop and smell the flowers and enjoy what spring has to offer.
