"IN THESE DAYS OF FAST FOOD, QUICK SERVICE AND HURRY-AND-GET-IT-DONE, WE CAN GET QUITE NOSTALGIC FOR TIMES WHEN LIFE'S PACE WAS SLOWER AND QUIETER; WHEN COOKING AND EATING WERE FAMILY ACTIVITIES THAT SERVED TO NOURISH THE HEART AND RELATIONSHIPS AS WELL AS THE BODY. DESCANSO JUNCTION RESTAURANT STRIVES TO RECREATE THIS ATMOSPHERE FOR BUSY FAMILIES, WITHOUT HAVING TO DO THE DISHES AFTERWARD."

We highly encourage everyone to learn about Julian’s history, but there are safe ways to do it, and walking into a random gold mine is not one of them.... Click the link to learn about 11 reasons why you should NOT go exploring gold mines. Please educate yourself before going on dangerous activities. The good news is there are some safe ways to explore gold mines and learn about our local history. Julian Mining Company and Julian Farm is one option discussed in this article.

"The Warner Carrillo Ranch House served as the Butterfield Stage Stop and was California's first regular overland stage connection with St. Louis. With its multilayered history, the adobe ranch house tells the story of the emigrant trail, the overland stage, and the prominent ranching history of the area." Explore this place for yourself and learn about San Diego's history at the same time.

Julian has a shortage of public restrooms. It may seem like a simple problem to fix, but it's a complicated issue. You can learn why by reading this article. Who do you think is responsible for the bathroom shortage, the gold miners, or the San Diego Board of Supervisors?

Living the small-town lifestyle is so much more than your zip code. It is a true way of life with its own cultures and customs. No two towns are the same. Where you live in Julian or another community, I’m sure your hometown will share similar cultural costumes as my hometown. Do you long to live the small-town lifestyle?

"Laguna Mountain Lodge & Store is located on the S1 Scenic Byway - Sunrise Highway - at the highest point of Mount Laguna, in the heart of the Cleveland National Forest. Standing 6,000 feet above sea level, Mount Laguna is a pristine forest of pine and oak. Located just one hour east of downtown San Diego, this unspoiled location is one of San Diego's best kept secrets. The mountain is the perfect playground for hiking, mountain biking, camping, family activities, star gazing, or just relaxing." http://www.lagunamountain.com/

Once an unheard of diet restriction, in recent years the need to be gluten-free has become considerably more mainstream even in little old Julian. Over the last few years, many restaurants have stepped up their game with gluten-free options. While these restaurants offer gluten-free menu items as described below, their kitchens are not gluten-free. These places offer items made without gluten but are NOT gluten-free so cross-contamination is possible.

The Julian Community Heritage Foundation (JCHF) is excited to introduce their initiative for a Julian Town Square, community park & outdoor amphitheater on historic Main Street. The Julian Town Square project is being proposed for the vacant lot on the corner of Main St. and Washington St. This project is a community driven initiative, which was spearheded by Teak Nichols, along with the support of Jean Duffy and Dana Patterson. The project has been in the planning stages for... some time now and they're hoping to finally bring it to fruition with your help. Julian Town Square will be an epicenter of art, theater and community gatherings. JCHF is currently running a pledge drive to raise funds towards the establishment of the town square project. Donations will be going towards the purchase of the property and the goal is to raise $600,000. You can pledge any amount great or small and learn more about their efforts at their web-site: https://juliantownsquare.com/
