A beautiful reminder created by NJ Mvondo. An artist, social entrepreneur, community organizer, & a participant in our '18-'19 #HLPathways Cohort! Today is indeed the final day to apply for our Pathways program! A HUGE THANKS to all those who have applied and shared our program on social!! You're interest, support, and shares mean everything to us. #HackerLab always has and always will operate with our Sacramento community in mind. We are truly grateful for this opportunity t...o continue to create new educational tools and resources, by way of our amazing sponsors and recent City grant funding. A big thanks once more to our Pathways sponsors: @cityofsacramento, @sutterhealth, @kpthrive, and @mysmud. . Repost @njmvondo: masks are magnificent Piece #2 of my #healthisinourcommunity sidewalk stencil series for the City of Davis, CA, sponsored by @cityofdavisarts, with the support of @artsalliancedavis. To the left: Variation of a popular Bogolanfini pattern. Bogolanfini, AKA Bogolan, is a handmade Malian cotton fabric, traditionally dyed up with fermented mud, and traded worldwide. Bogolanfini means mud cloth in the Bambara language. To the right: The laces of the mask form the Adinkra symbol for cooperation. Adinkra are West African visual symbols and concepts originally created by Gyeman King Nana Kwado Agyemang Adinkra, and thus attributed to the Gyaman of Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) and the Ashanti of Ghana. Encapsulating a wisdom from time immemorial, these symbols are often linked to proverbs, and can be found on fabrics, pottery, jewelry, and in architectural elements.
