Point Loma Garden Club 09.11.2020

Our next meeting is Wednesday, February 12 from 9:30 AM to Noon Program: George Speers Seasonal Floral Design ... George Speers Jr. was Palomar District Director and on the state board of California Garden Clubs Inc., and is currently an accredited Master National Garden Club flower show judge. George will demonstrate creative ideas and techniques of flower arrangements to craft beautiful designs for the season. George’s seasonal arrangements will be donated for an Opportunity Drawing. Our next Meeting will be Wednesday, January 8th from 9:30 AM to Noon Program: Landscape Design, Native Plants... Patrick Montgomery, manager of Native West Nursery, will do a presentation called "Landscape Quality Native Plants - An opportunity to connect urban and designed landscapes with our California wild lands." The presentation starts with the larger question of "Why consider native plants in the first place? It describes specific plants that are the hardiest and most likely to survive and thrive in Southern California. Patrick will demonstrate with 10 live plants from the Nursery and then we will have an opportunity drawing of his native plants. (Our field trip this month will be to Native West Nursery. Point Loma Garden Club 17.10.2020

Blanche’s Basin, on Rosecrans just south of Cañon in front of Village Plaza, just had a jacaranda planted and memorial plaques installed. Now, Point Loma Garden... Club members have added a splash of color to Blanche’s Basin. Beneath the tree is a small plot of land displaying two memorials for Blanche Welch and Betty Allman, and one plaque saluting the still-very-active Jodie Bruhn for her continuing community service. Thank you Point Loma Garden Club members for helping beautify the area! #PointLoma #Beautification

We want to say thank you to our friends at Point Loma Garden Club for helping us decorate the Old Point Loma Lighthouse for the 51st year in a row! This year we... decorated with Victorian era paper crafts and handmade snowflakes. The lighthouse will be dressed up for the holiday season until January 7, 2020. See more

Five Minute Design: Kathy Esty - The SDFA School Garden Project Program: Balboa Park Rose Garden... Sue Streeper and Bob Kolb are Administrators of the Balboa Park Rose Corps. Sue will tell us about the creation and history of the beautiful world-famous Balboa Park Inez Gran Parker Memorial Rose Garden is an award winning All-American Rose Selection Display Garden containing over 2,400 bushes in 180 varieties. Bob will show us photos and tell us about the Balboa Park Rose Corps volunteers who work in the Garden and maintain it. We hope you can join us for this informative program.

Happy New Year. Our next meeting will be: Wednesday, January 9th Five Minute Talk: Shyla Crowson Backyard Chickens... Program: Attracting Birds to our Point Loma Gardens Mike Matherly. Mike is a popular speaker for the San Diego Audubon Society. He will present a show with some of the best photography of birds of Southern California. We will learn how to attract birds to our gardens and maybe learn to identify the birds!

Our Annual Plant Sale - April 28, 2018 9 AM - Noon It will take place at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 3598 Talbot Street (east of Canon Street) in Point Loma on Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 9 AM to noon. (Postponed due to paving of Talbot Street. There will be no access to the church on 4/21.) Come join us and take home heirloom and hybrid tomatoes, unusual vegetables, beautiful patio container plants and specimen, water wise and native plants.... Plan to visit Ye Olde Garden Shoppe for new and gently used items. Have your gardening questions answered by Master Gardeners. Proceeds provide, in part, ongoing philanthropic support for local college scholarships and community organizations. Thank you for your continued patronage and support!
