I had just completed "Stellar Axis: Antarctica" when Stephen Nowlin, curator of the Alyce de Roulet Williamson Art Gallery, Art Center, Pasadena invited me to p...articipate in "Observe" an exhibition with five other artists in collaboration with scientists at CalTech's Spitzer Science Center, working with the infrared Spitzer Space Telescope. We were all inspired by conversations surrounding the practice, discoveries, theories, and speculations of deep-space astronomy. In "Stellar Suspension", and through the research and inspiration of "Stellar Axis: Antarctica", I had made the observation that if one follows the light of two stars through the North Pole and through the Center of the Earth to the South Pole, the rotation of the Earth around the sun, would create with that star light a double helix strand. Indeed, a poetic statement of our connection to starlight through our DNA. I created a 4 channel projection installation with a musical score created by Sussan Deyhim. See more
