Welcome to the water! My name is Krista Vann and I will be the Commodore for the Orange Coast College Sailing Association this year. I started sailing 10 years ago on the very boats you see pictured behind me. I joined the OCC program and registered for Lido 1 & 2 and Shields 1 & 2. Wanting more opportunities to sail, I came to an OCCSA meeting so I could make friends and take cruising trips. Currently I have two sailboats. I keep an Ericson 23’ in Redondo Beach and I’m r...estoring a vintage Etchells racer which I hope to finish soon. Everyone has a different relationship with the water and OCC is a great way to find out what you like: power boats, sailboats or a little of both. Whatever your interest, check out our schedule online and consider getting registered and becoming a member. It’s never too late to try something new and it’s certainly never too late to appreciate boating. Every age is represented and we are a friendly group. Last speaker of the year and it's gonna be good! This Monday meet Thomas J. Hogan, Commodore of the illustrious 2019 Transpac. This will be the 50th anniversary of the race and Tom will be talking about its fascinating history here in Los Angeles and the many highlights along the way. For the curious, the Transpac was started in 1906 and is one of yachting's premier offshore races. We asked our June speaker Zuzana Prochazka to share her favorite photos from chartering trips she has led over the years. The consummate professional, Zuzana entertained us with good old-fashioned sailing stories as well as a slideshow of fantastic destinations. A supporter of OCCSA acquired these pieces from a dear friend who recently passed away. She would like to give them to his grandsons if they can be fixed. Send us a message if you're interested.
