NAMI San Diego is here to support and advocate for the mental health and well-being of our Asian and Pacific Islander communities. We understand that the recent events and related discourse can be harmful and triggering. If you need someone to talk to, please text "NAMI" to 741-741. You will be connected with a trained crisis counselor from the Crisis Text Line for free, 24/7 crisis support via text message. If you need additional resources, please call NAMI San Diego's Hel...pline at 1-800-523-5933. We are available Monday through Friday from 10am to 3pm. For additional information and resources, please visit nami.org/aapi. We are here for you.

This summer we are ready to dive into success by bringing healing and culturally responsive wraparound care to youth substance use prevention efforts, in partnership with @thecentershf and @elevateyouthca project! Learn more at https://namisandiego.org/elevate-youth-california-project/! This FREE NAMI San Diego program is designed to be taught in a minimum of five one-hour engaging sessions for groups. Students learn key concepts, practice new skills, and have fun connecting with other students. They finish with a positive attitude, clear goals, and an understanding of what they need to achieve them. The key focus of this training will be addressing social emotional learning competencies, building the skill set of a self- leader, and building the mindset of a self- leader. The "Wheel of Emotions" is something our staff at NAMI San Diego has personally passed around the office. It is a tool we have given to friends and even used as an activity at events. Though it may seem simple to some people, identifying specific emotions can be difficult. Especially considering the vast amount of emotions there are. Using the "Wheel of Emotions" can help you learn how to better talk about and express what you are feeling. #MentalIllnessAwarenessWeek #WorldMentalHealthDay #MIAW https://themighty.com///i-feel-nothing-wheel-of-emotions/
Think about it. How many people do you know who have a mental illness? Is this a conversation you have discussed with friends? Would you be aware if someone close to you was struggling? If you would like to know how to recognize the signs or more about the different mental illnesses, download our oscER app for free on any device. Or check the link in our description to see the web version of the app. #MentalIllnessAwarenessWeek #WorldMentalHealthDay #MIAW
There are many barriers to seeking mental health treatment. Did you know that one of those is lack of cultural competency? There is no way a mental health professional can learn every aspect of all cultures. However, it is extremely important to be culturally sensitive and aware. Start sessions by addressing and developing a base understanding of what those are. Mental health treatment needs to be personalized, there is no "one size fits all". Don't be afraid to ask questions and start the conversation early. #MIAW #WorldMentalHealthDay https://www.nami.org//Why-We-Need-More-Culturally-Competen
You can't choose what days your mental illness affects you. Your mental illness doesn't know when it's an important day or holiday. #MIAW #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalIllnessAwarenessWeek . . . @gmf.designs
1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year and only 50.6% of U.S. youth aged 6-17 with a mental health disorder received treatment in 2016. #MIAW #WorldMentalHealthDay https://www.talkspace.com/blog/teen-mental-health-help/ (Statistics from nami.org/mhstats)
