Last Week Tonight with John Oliver called out to small art museums who want to host John Oliver’s eclectic art collection- and we answered! If MMA is chosen for the bad art exhibition, John Oliver will give a donation to the Museum and to the local food bank. It’s all about having fun and getting the chance to benefit our community! MMA is proud to present Courage Within Women Without Shelter, opening January 2022. Until then, be sure to follow us as we go behind the scenes of the project and the incredible artists that made it possible Posted @withregram @denese.sanders.art After the last Grounded Within art worksh working with women experiencing homelessness, we created a tea ceremony at each location, to commemorate our time together and for casual social gathering. Melissa, being a performance arti...st, brought the group together using elements of her work. The tea party included fancy teacups (from Melissa’s grandmother Lanelle), dainty napkins, and delicious pastries donated by @parkerlusseau We recognize and want to emphasize the women’s innate dignity and desire to connect: woman to woman, artist to artist. @artranger1 @doralisarosenbaum @mandy.salm @montereyart @opengroundstudios criticalground #artistsharing #montereymuseumofart #homelessnessawareness #endhomelessness #artheals #artworkshops #montereypeninsula #pebblebeach #womenshealth #womensupportingwomen #ihelp #gatheringforwomen #homelessness #couragewithinwomen #art #socialjustice #artbyhomeless #sculpture #oilpainting #portraits #performanceart #textiles #horsehairart #artinstallation #artactivism #bookart #drawing #blindcontour #virtualmma #happeningatmma

Gretchen Andrew knows who the next American president will be! Okay, maybe she doesn't know exactly, but the internet doesn't know that =) While you're waiting for election results to come in, try googling "The next American President". Among the top image results you'll find, not images of the candidates, but the incredible vision boards by MMA artist Gretchen Andrew (you can also read about her work on CNN , The Art Newspaper, artnet, Artforum and other internationally acc...laimed press). In her vision boards, Andrew explores the qualities she thinks the next American president should possess: books they should read, the types of things they should value, etc. View Andrew's virtual exhibition online at montereyart.org and don't forget to vote! From January 8 through April 11, 2021, MMA will be exhibiting CALIFAS: The Ancestral Journey/ El Viaje Ancestral. In the exhibition, Moving Parts Press, together with Museo Eduardo Carrillo , reunite five Central Coast Chicano/a/x artists (Yermo Aranda, Eduardo Carrillo, Ralph D’Oliveira, Carmen Leon and Amalia Mesa Bains) in a collaborative and unique artists’ book, linking art and social movements of the 1960s rooted en Califas to the next generation of Latinx and other a...rtists. The legacy of these artists reaches deeply into our communities, contributing to cultural unity, enhancing collective memory, and creating new awarenesses. On August 20, the home and studio of Moving Parts Press founder and artist, Felicia Rice were completely destroyed by the CZU Lightning Fire. Felicia and her husband are safe and relocated but she is in desperate need of funds to help rebuild her studio and continue her incredible work. Please help her resurrect Moving Parts Press from the ashes of the devastating fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains by donating to the fundraiser, Raise Moving Parts Press from the Ashes. https://www.gofundme.com/f/raise-moving-parts-press-from-th Although Felicia's studio and practice will be smaller for now, her mission remains the same, "The mission of the press, my personal commitment remains the same: As a printer, my job is to confront complex issues and render my response in book form. As an artist, my job is to do so with profound integrity. As a publisher, my job is to make these issues public. As printers have done every decade since Gutenberg, I’m here to argue for a more just society." Image: CALIFAS: The Ancestral Journey / El Viaje Ancestral, 2020.
