Mortgage rates change frequently. According to Freddie Mac, the 30-year fixed mortgage rate hit a record high of 18.63% in 1981; it’s expected to average 3.8% this year, up a bit from recent record lows. . I read an article last week with a headline that said interest rates were skyrocketing. Skyrocketing? No. Let’s hold up, look at the data, be reasonable, and add a bit perspective. When I purchased my own property 5 years ago, my interest rate was 4% still a great r...ate when you look at historical data! Yes, the market is competitive, but that is no reason to be fearful of it or take yourself out of the game. Yes, rates are increasing slightly, but I’d say skyrocketing is fear-based reporting and misleading. Don’t buy into it. Let’s get after your goals! . For many, including myself, real estate is a long-term strategy: buy, grow your equity thereby building your personal wealth , and stay the course. When the time is right to either trade up, borrow against your home’s value and/or add another property to your portfolio, you’ll know. But in the meantime, hear this: rates are still fantastic, it IS a good time to buy, and a professional Realtor will be there to guide you through the entire process and beyond. Pending Home Sales Rise 5.9% in July WASHINGTON (August 27, 2020) Pending home sales in July achieved another month of positive contract activity, marking three consecutive months of growth, according to the National Association of Realtors. Each of the four major regions saw gains in both month-over-month and year-over-year pending home sales transactions. The Pending Home Sales Index (PHSI), a forward-looking indicator of home sales based on contract signings, ro...se 5.9% to 122.1 in July. Year-over-year, contract signings rose 15.5%. An index of 100 is equal to the level of contract activity in 2001.
