Coming up next in our Online Workshop Series is glass artist, Mark Abildgaard. On Jan. 30th join us from 1 to 4 pm for a look into his entire kiln casting process. https://www.shop.natsoulas.com//mark-abildgaard-kiln-casti In this 3 hour online workshop Mark will present an overview of the entire kiln casting process by showing how to turn an object sculpted in clay into cast glass. He will share techniques for sculpting and texturing clay, making an open face plaster and silica mold, calculating mold volume, loading molds with glass and setting up an electric kiln for firing glass. He will explain how to create a firing schedule for casting glass using a programmable controller for an electric kiln.

He will teach how to plan and execute a 4’ x 3’ standing sculpture while focusing on techniques of structural design elements, steel armatures, connections, reinforcing with fiber glass, color tinting, and kiln firing methods. Coming up in our Zoom Workshop Series is sculptor, John Toki, on Jan. 23rd from 1 to 4 p.m. https://www.shop.natsoulas.com/ceramic/p/john-toki-workshop John Toki is considered a technical expert in ceramics. He has created over hundreds of glazes, built an entire line of kilns, and wrote an introductory ceramic text entitled ‘Hands in Clay’ that explains techniques of how to work in clay. His outdoor freestanding clay sculptures are seen across America, and his engineering s...kills to produce large format clay sculptures has been taught and passed onto over a hundred of artists. In this workshop, Toki will create a small free-standing sculpture made of colored clay, stoneware, and porcelain from start to finish. In this workshop on December 19th from 1 to 4 p.m. join ceramic restoration extraordinaire and artist René Martucci. She will demonstrate the nitty-gritty process of repairing broken ceramics. If you’d like to work alongside Martucci in repairing your own ceramic art and ask questions, that is more than welcome. Some topics of discussion include: fixing ceramic imperfections, building and constructing missing parts, gluing, and the reassembly of ceramics. Preparation of tools is encouraged; a list of tools will be provided in advance. Also if you’d like advice on fixing a ceramic piece you can send us image and Rene will walk you through fixing the piece.
