Did you know that you can help gorillas just by eating honey? Happy Hollow has a longstanding relationship with Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which protects over 1/3 of the world's endangered mountain gorillas. Proceeds from Gorilla Honey sold at the Explore & More store, The Three Sisters in Willow Glen, and Sam's Downtown Feed and Pet Supply go in part to support Virunga. What does honey have to do with gorillas? Learn more in our blog: http://bit.ly/HHVirunga

Bayou the American alligator has been at Happy Hollow since he was very young. He was found in the Sacramento-San Joaquin delta here in California. This species is native to the southeast United States, not our area, so it is likely that he was abandoned by someone who tried to keep him as a pet. Please always do your research before getting a pet to be sure that you can make a lifelong commitment to them, and make sure the pet that you choose comes from a rescue or a responsible breeder. #NationalPetDay

My first daughter was born in 2006, so she was the perfect age for Happy Hollow. She loved it! We had a routine of starting and ending with the carousel, and it was great to see her so excited to find out she grew enough (or got brave enough) to ‘graduate’ to the next level of rides. I can't tell you how many times we went on the roller coaster once she figured out she liked it! Sadly, she outgrew Happy Hollowbut, then we had her little sister in 2016, so we are back. And she loves it just as much. Karen P., San Jose Nothing like a "second helping" of happy! You can help ensure that Happy Hollow will continue to thrive for generations to come by making a donation to Happy Hollow Foundation: https://www.mightycause.com/organi/Happy-Hollow-Foundation-

What does the fox say? Fennec foxes are native to the Sahara Desert and the Sinai Peninsula, and their most distinctive feature is probably their unusually large ears. This adaptation helps them dissipate heat and stay cool. Zookeeper John

The way snakes silently slither give some people the heebie-jeebies, but corn snakes, like Maisey are nonvenomous and don’t pose any threat to people. These gorgeous snakes are sometimes mistaken for the venomous copperhead, but they actually help farmers by eating mice, rats and insects that infest grain fields and storage buildings. Our advice: If you see a snake in the wild, give it lots of space and admire it from afar.

Sal is helping us spread the word about saving salamanders! They're having a hard time in the wild, and many species are in rapid decline. You can help by never removing them from the wild to keep as pets or to use as fish bait. Zoo Ed Caitlin. More: https://www.savethesalamanders.com/
