How do you know what you are eating and drinking is working well for your body? Proper nourishment can not only help athletic performance, but also help with prevention of diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, hormone balance, and more. Personally I suggest first getting your food allergies tested on blood labs, so you will know what you will need to avoid; I run 96 foods both IgE and IgG. Then get other biomarkers evaluated to establish a baseline; thing...s like: blood labs, inflammatory markers, percentage body fat, strength, sleep, energy, brain function, mood, hormones, etc. Then begin an eating plan for a minimum of 3 months and then recheck your biomarkers to evaluate if you are achieving your set out goals; adjust accordingly. One biomarker tool I've personally been using is a CGM or continuous glucose monitor. You don't have to be diabetic to get one from Nutrisense, use my promo code for a discount "DrBrad" . This tool is great. One thing that we all need to consider is that we need to balance our blood glucose, which inturn, in a normal functioning body, will help with managing insulin levels; one exception will be in insulin resistant folks, but let's not go there at this time. In the comments below I'll share the signs of both high and low blood sugar, where any person in a state of either will likely not feel their best. Two interesting things my CGM has taught me is that eating the same meal at different times of the day has different effects on my blood sugar, and one of my biggest blood sugar spikes was after riding for 2hrs straight on a hot day, I had some watermelon as a snack.
