Some of the harmful chemicals found in smokeless tobacco products are nitrosamines, polonium-210, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury. Remember that safer doesn’t mean safe. All tobacco products come with risk of serious health effects.

"Nicotine addiction can ravage a life, but quitting can reverse the damage. Inconsistent or difficult journeys should not deter smokers. Instead, be rewarded for attempting to regain control. Staying positive and motivated is an active process that requires self-discipline and strong social support. All the hard work pays off with a smoke-free life." - Center for Family Medicine in PA #TobaccoThursday #stopsmokingtoday

"As Big Tobacco continues to use flavored products to target young people, another generation is at risk of becoming addicted to tobacco. This is a matter of health justice for our families, our loved ones, and our children."--First Lady Chirlane McCray

The benefits of stopping smoking are much better than those of smoking. Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. It causes more than 480,000 deaths each year. That is nearly 1 in 5 deaths, or 1,300 deaths every day. For every person who dies because of smoking, at least 30 people live with a serious smoking-related illness. That means more than 16 million Americans are living with a disease caused by smoking. Take a step in the right direction and call 1-800-NO-BUTTS for help with smoking addiction. #stopsmoking #tobaccofreethursday

Youth who use e-cigarettes are 3.6 times more likely to report using combustible cigarettes later in life! Thus, creating a whole new generation of life-long smokers and studies show that close to 90% of adult daily smokers started before the age of 18. Therefore, it's important to protect your whole body, especially your brain, from the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine. #tobaccofreethursday

Piper Johnson used to vape regularly in high school. After surviving vaping-related lung illness, she's now working to raise awareness of the risks of the habit. KNOW THE SIGNS OF VAPING Are there sweet, fruity, or menthol smells coming from behind closed doors? Are there flash drives or other school supplies you don’t recognize in your kid’s backpack or room? How about small vials or eye dropper bottles? Have you come across unfamiliar chargers, coils, or batteries? Is your teen spending more money than usual or making unexplained purchases? Have there been changes in your kid’s behavior such as increased mood swings, irritability, anxiety, impulsivity, or learning difficulties? Is your teen suffering from more frequent headaches or nausea?

After a decade of hard work, California will end the sale of flavored tobacco. That includes vapes and menthol-flavored cigarettes, beginning January 1st, 2021. It’s a huge step in keeping kids from getting hooked on deadly tobacco products. #tobaccofreethursday

It is no coincidence that tobacco products are sold in candy flavors like, green apple, cotton candy, cool mint and even mango. Big Tobacco wants to make sure that your kids are the next life-long customers. Let's put a stop to teen smoking, vaping, & tobacco/nicotine use for a brighter future!

Bright colors, candy like packaging, and sweet flavorsstuff kids love. And the tobacco industry knows it. It’s like giving super addictive candy to a baby.
