We have driven this car from LA to Palm Springs & San Diego multiple times. She is a daily driver! This was my only ride for a few years, I took the kids to school everyday in it. My wife drives it to work sometimes still. All old cars need love, over the years I did routine maintenance & some upgrades .. Recently installed a disc brake conversion & master cylinder relocation. I installed a new Volvo steering box & modified the stock 3 speed column to work with the box. I also installed a steering upgrade kit from Shoebox Central that corrected steering geometry including a Pitman arm center link, etc. The car has been converted to 12v, and has an MSD electronic distributor. Every man has that childhood dream of having an American Muscle Car! At least around here anyway. We acquired this 68 Chevelle a few years back for a customer and started a work in progress build. Little here little there. Have some fun then roll it back in for an upgrade. To date- we installed a Tremec 5 speed. Did major front and rear suspension upgrades (HTH stage 3 kit) added 4 wheel 13 6 piston willwood disc brakes. Built our 12 Bolt to accept major power and gave our ...original 396 a once over. built a pretty cool exhaust system.. And put some tires and wheels that were made for speed. We knew the day would come when an upgraded motor would find its way into our engine Bay. Well that day came!! We knew from day one that our big block Chevelle would just get another big block and that we would keep it carbureted . Ok,back to business.. before I can cut anything I want to make sure my drive line is all aligned. I’ve done some research and there are a few things that need modifying to run a big twin and a 4 speed in the VL. For the most part, the rear wheel just fell into place. The break stay will need to be modified but that’s pretty easy. The transmission needed some finessing. I cut the trans adjuster off the stock trans Case to get it to fit in. It will definitely need a bit more work but it’s good for now. I have the driveline pretty much lined up. I just need to deal With my front motor mount. I’ll attack making a new one next. If you could see what I see! So my plan for the frame has always been to stretch this VL frame. I like my knuckle stance so as far as the frame goes it’s my inspiration. I’ve never seen a stretched chopper VL the way I see this one in my head. With that said I rode my knuckle into the shop today and put it on my frame jig. For the most part it was pretty easy to get it on there. I just made a few spacers to center the rear axle and she went on easy peasy! You might ask why ...the hell did you put the knuckle on your jig. Don’t you know the dimensions! Of course i do. It’s just the way my head works... (plus i found like 10 things that need fixing lol) stretching this thing to my knuckles shape without losing the beauty of the VL frame is my biggest challenge. I wanted to understand what stance I was stretching from so I mocked the bike up in what might be considered its original but modified form. My friend Juan is in a coma. It’s times like these that you feel helpless and like there is nothing you can do for him or his family. What I can and have been doing is thinking about him and praying for him every day. He has always been a very strong person. He’s not someone that gives up easy or walks away from impossible dreams. As you may already know from his list of accomplishments, he has achieved what some might call the impossible because he believed with all his hear...t that he could.
