As we continue to celebrate Black History Month, we wanted to share the story of Walter George Meadows, a master jeweler who ran one of the great Black-owned business enterprises in early San Diego. In the photo you can see Meadows inside his jewelry shop originally located on G Street. For nearly three decades, Meadows spent his life establishing a prosperous business and family roots in a city that he helped to develop and that would see momentous change after his death in 1943.
It's that time again. Our first Employee of the Month for 2021! We're thrilled to recognize a maintenance ambassador and one of Clean & Safe's rising stars, Jermaine. Over the last 4 months, Jermaine has taken on the lead in filling in as a supervisor to help with operations, deploying teams, conducting field inspections, fielding service calls, and addressing any maintenance issues. Jermaine has been doing a great job and we are lucky to have him helping our Downtown neighborhoods thrive.

Balboa Park, San Diego's 1,200-acre historic urban cultural park and crown jewel, sits right in our backyard and we are pretty proud of it. Balboa Park is asking residents to fill out a short survey to help identify priorities for future investment in the country’s largest urban cultural park. Your input will help ensure available resources are directed towards initiatives that you want to experience. Survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JMVV8PK... Photo by: Matthew T. Rader

We are proud to live in a city that is making strides to combat climate change and equally proud that so many of those ideas take shape in our Downtown. The City of San Diego has ranked sixth nationally for climate action among the 100 largest U.S. cities by The Brookings Institution. Our Climate, Our Future will be a five-year update to the Climate Action Plan, incorporating changes in state laws and advances in technology, and including the viewpoints of San Diegans through a public survey. The City of San Diego's acquisition of two hotel properties to convert to housing for our unsheltered population is moving forward. Those properties will move 332 households into housing including 13 clients who work with our homeless outreach team. We’re so grateful to see the region-wide dedication to getting these types of supportive housing units online quickly. They provide a much-needed ability to house individuals with specific needs and case management requirements. https://timesofsandiego.com//state-gives-san-diego-37-7-m/
