Five races & attendance is required....any questions? To potential spectators: It is up to the authorities (federal, state, county & track) as to whether or not spectators will be allowed at all or some of our events. I would assume that the later events will be more likely to allow attendees, but that is speculative on my part. We will update our social media as things develop.
Carl Moore just informed me that long-time CSRG member, Terry Stinnett, passed away last week after experiencing breathing problems. I only knew Terry for a short while & our discussion centered on his Titan Mk VI Formula Ford. It was a lively, funny conversation---as I understand they all were with Terry. Carl writes: "I first met Terry when he purchased my Lotus 18 [pictured] back in about 1986. Terry enjoyed the racing and car groups and the friends he made there. He also cherished the golf buddies at Round Hill. He truly had a kind, gentle and loving heart. I will miss him."
Ran across these old photos---a couple from the Under 2.5 Trans-Am Challenge & one from an SCCA National at Portland in 1972 or '73. Phill Reilly photos.
It's been so long since we've been to Laguna that I had trouble finding some photos of it. These are from 2000, but my bet is you can tell they're old...At least I'll have a chance to get some new ones on June 5-6, won't I?
I always get a kick out of the Sonoma Raceway Holiday videos. This one is no exception: https://www.youtube.com/watch
To end an unprecedented year, CSRG president Locke De Bretteville and treasurer Steve Torp, presented Speedway Children’s Charity Sonoma Chapter Director, Cheri Plattner and Sonoma Raceway CEO Steve Page, a $30,000 donation to support the ever more critical work of the Charity. This is a program CSRG members have been supporting for 17 years. CSRG races for the passion and fun of the sport, but also to support the community, the craftsmen, mechanics, safety teams and more that make it all possible... even in an extraordinarily difficult year. Here's my 2021 event recommendations. Of course I'm just a little biased...
A wonderful end to a...ahem...strange year & season. The fact that CSRG was successful in pulling off most of the events without any COVID issues is very pleasing.
Just a couple of laps, but it gets the point across---a great track, fresh air, a beautiful place & race cars. If I could illustrate it in photos, I would include the fantastic conversation, as well.
Live from the season finale at Thunderhill PT1
Entrants & Crews Coming to Thunderhill Next Weekend. No need to be lonely, like this guy. There will be a Saturday night track dinner, open to entrants & crew. COVID-19 protocols will be in effect. The dinners will be served individually, to be picked up at the Thunderhill ... Grill. Wine, beer & soft drinks will be included. Heaters will be provided, but seating is up to you, as long as it includes social distancing. Dinner details will be given at the track and/or in the Acceptance letter. You are encouraged to wear a costume & join in the Crypt Keeper's Walk before the CSRG membership (social distancing must be observed) in front of the Registration Building. Awards (as in $$$$) can be expected for the top three costumes.
At the Charity Challenge: A little fun with Jon Norman at the Charity Challenge. That's his wife, Nancy Norman, on his left.
Paddock Walk #2, this time it's Alfas...
A brief walk in the paddock...
For those of you still interested in open testing on Friday, Thunderhill Raceway is going to host it for us! Here's a link to the event on facebook. Registration is open on MSR, and can also be completed at the TRP Gift Shop on Friday morning.
Morning practice for Formula Fords at the 2020 Charity Challenge. This is less than half of the actual grid because the drivers were slow coming to the grid & I had to leave to get ready for my own session. Sorry to cut it so short.
Race Group 3 going out for the Saturday morning practice. Before anyone asks, yes there are MGBs, Porsches & a Turner in the group because they are prepped to a later (1972) spec than the big-bore cars (1967). It doesn't make up for the horspower differential, though...
The first practice session for USRRC-eligible cars in Race Group 4 at the Charity Challenge. A nice selection of cars, plus one "oops"...
