This has been a tough year for all businesses, but I want to say that this Thanksgiving I am so very thankful for all of our wonderful customers who have been supporting us during these tough times. I am sad to say, but after many years our incredible manager, Jacob, has decided to leave the restaurant industry. He has been so amazing. He is not only a colleague but a friend. I got to know his amazing family, and I feel so fortunate to have known him all these years. He has truly allowed me to work at my full time job knowing that the cafe and our customers are being taken care of. Please stop by this week to say good-bye. I am sure he will appreciate it. He is off Tuesd...ay and Wednesday and Sunday August 9th will be his last day. We hired a great manager name Juan who worked with Jacob in the past and he has been catching up very quickly. My father was an extremely inspirational person in my life, and unfortunately he passed away this past year. Having survived the Holocaust, he taught me to appreciate all that I have. He taught me how to treat colleagues, how to build businesses, but most importantly to value family over everything else. For all of you who are lucky to spend time with your fathers this year, take advantage of this day: share fond memories, heal wounds if necessary, and express the way you fee...l in words as well as actions. A little update: Since we counted on our large national bank to come through for the PPP loan, we weren’t one of the lucky ones. They seemed to take care of their big clients first. Somehow we still feel very fortunate and it is because of our customers. Although sales are down heavily, you have helped all of our employees that are interested in working stay employed. As of now, we have reapplied elsewhere and are hopeful that this time the banks will focus on local businesse...s. We also look at everything with a glass half-full mentality. First of all, I want to say that our thoughts are with all those affected by this Pandemic. I know that the population in Isla Vista is mainly young, which news reports state makes them less susceptible to symptoms, but we are part of a larger community with some that are not so lucky. We are being vigilant in keeping our café wiped down with sanitizing wipes, but we understand that some people in Santa Barbara really need to be extra careful and minimize contact with others.... In light of this, we have come up with two new solutions for those that cannot come to the café and order food. Number one is that we have reduced our online ordering prices for pick-up by 10% (not for 3rd party delivery sites given their high cost). For pickup orders, please go to www.ivbagelcafe.com and click Order-Pick UP button. Secondly, we are starting a home delivery service to any home from Goleta to Montecito. Deliveries will be made between 7 am to 9 am the next morning. If this is a one-time order, please click https://www.orderstart.com/bagelcafecatering. If you would like a recurring order either weekly, bi-weekly, twice a week, etc, please call the café at 805-685-7114 and leave a message with your number and we will call you back to arrange it. We believe that this will help a lot of people that are stuck at home and will also help us keep the doors open during these trying times, especially with UCSB cancelling classes.
