Coming soon: 'WANGECHI MUTU: I Am Speaking; Are You Listening?' will be our next contemporary art installation, opening February 2021. The Kenyan American artist Wangechi Mutu will take over the Court of Honor and permanent collection galleries.

Today is National Voter Registration Day! Register to vote early to ensure your voice is heard this November. We're also excited to announce that our museum will serve as a polling place on November 3rd.

What's going on in the galleries while we're closed? Although we keep an eye on light levels full time (whether we're open or closed), conservators decided that covering furniture early on in the shutdown would have the double benefit of giving any potentially light-sensitive pieces a break from any light and prevent dust from accumulating, saving staff time during routine gallery maintenance. Please note we are still working with state and local officials to determine our re-opening date, but will make sure to let you all know as soon as possible.

Our beloved Joan of Arc statue underwent a major conservation treatment last year. Jane Williams, Director of Conservation, takes us through the intensive process on our blog.

Two months ago, we pledged to provide an update on our commitment to dismantling the racist systems within our institution. We realize that a commitment to radical change requires sustained growth on multiple levels, individual and institutional. Today, we share an update on our progress thus far, and give you the opportunity to join us on this journey. Today marks 100 years since the 19th Amendment was passed, granting women their constitutional right to vote. This year we're supporting our local citizens' voting rights by turning our beloved Legion of Honor halls into a polling place on November 3rd. Meet three emerging conservators from our Conservation department! Emily Rezes (Graduate Fellow in Objects Conservation), Kathryn Harada (Getty Conserving Canvas Fellow in Paintings Conservation), and Laura Garcia Vedrenne (Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in Textiles Conservation) all began at the de Young and Legion of Honor museums in Fall 2019 and are in various stages of their conservation careers. Each will share some insight into their academic and on-the-job training. You will also get to see a little bit of the projects they were working on before the museum's temporary closure.
